Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman fled Friday with a minimum two-match suspension as punishment for his red card when Barcelona drew 0-0 in Cadiz.
The disciplinary discipline of the Spanish Football Association (RFEF) has decided to grant the Dutchman the shortest disqualification allowed after his dismissal in the last minute for arguing with the referees while Barcelona in 10 men limped to the goalless draw.
Referee Carlos del Cerro Grande wrote in his report that Koeman was sent off for “ostentatiously protesting the fourth official, with his arms raised, shouting and exiting the technical area, complaining: ‘hey, the’ referee has to blow the whistle, the referee The referee has to blow the whistle, damn it, he has to blow the whistle “even if he had already been cautioned by the fourth referee to stop protesting the referee’s decisions”.
Koeman wanted to stop the game because there were two balls on the pitch.
“In this country you are expelled for nothing,” Koeman said at a press conference after the game, explaining that “it was for telling the fourth referee that there was a second ball on the pitch, that he had to stop the game.”
Koeman is under pressure because Barcelona are already seven points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid, even though they have one game down and have only scored five goals in five league games.
He will not be able to sit on the bench on Sunday when Barcelona host Levante and on 2 October when Barcelona will visit the champions Atletico Madrid.
The disciplinary committee also banned midfielder Frenkie de Jong for a match.
The Dutchman was sent off in the 65th minute for his second yellow card in four minutes.
